The Electronic Organ Discussion List is a new LISTSERV
discussion list hosted by Douglas McMurry for the purpose of
discussions related to the playing, servicing, modification, and
rebuilding of all elecrtronic organs.
Please save these instructions for future reference,
especially if you are not familiar with a LISTSERV. In fact, you
should create a new mail folder for messages like this one, and for
the "welcome messages" from the list owners that you will
occasionally receive after subscribing to a new list.
To Subscribe to the List:
To subscribe, send an email to:
. The first line of the note should consist of:
subscribe EORG-L your@address Your Name
To Send Messages:
To send a message to all the people currently
subscribed to the list, just send mail to:
"Electronic Organ Discussion List"
This is called "sending mail to the list", because you send mail
to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people who have subscribed.
This address
is
also called the "list address". You must never try to send any command to that
address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed. All
commands must be sent to the "LISTSERV address",
.
It is very important to understand the difference between the two, but fortunately
it is not complicated. The LISTSERV address is like a FAX number, and the list
address is like a normal phone line. If you make your FAX call someone's regular
phone number by mistake, it will be an unpleasant experience for him but you
will probably be excused the first time. If you do it regularly, however, he
will probably get upset and send you a nasty complaint. It is the same with
mailing lists, with the difference that you are calling hundreds or thousands
of people at the same time, so a lot more people get annoyed if you use the
wrong number.

Administration:
Messages dealing with administration and subscription
issues should be directed to:
The Hammond organ Internet mailing list is for the discussion of technical aspects of Hammond organs regarding their playing, servicing, modification, and rebuilding. In addition, extensive discussion and information is available regarding Leslie speaker systems. Also included in discussion are issues related to various "clones" of Hammond organs using modern synthesizer technologies. A FAQ and and international repair shop listing are available.
The mail volume on this list averages roughly 40 messages/day, and the technical content is generally high.
This list is used to share a variety of information,
including all sorts of questions (and the answers!) on Hammond
organs, digital clones of the Hammond organ, related gear, playing
technique, equipment reviews and opinions, references to places for
purchase and/or repair of new or old gear, spare parts, for-sale
listings for privately owned gear, and more. Everyone is welcome to
join our discussions, but discussions mostly involve topics of
interest to Hammond players and/or techs. If you are new to internet
mail, to group discussion mailing lists, or to this group in
particular, we ask that you take time to read the following material
in detail before jumping in.

By Popular Request the Theatre Organ Home Page announces a mailing list for the exclusive use of Theatre Organ lovers. Topics of discussion can include pipe theatre organs as well as electronics, even Hammonds, for we have nothing against good organ music of any kind. If it has to do with good organ music of any kind, you may post it. Technical questions and posts as well as technique and other musical questions may be posted.
To Send Messages to the List:
To Subscribe to the list, you simply issue commands to the automated ListServer as follows below. Note that only subscribed list members may send messages to the list. If in doubt what to do, Email and ask.
Helpful Hint:
To keep track of all the mailing lists you may
subscribe to, in an orderly fashion, we recommend that you maintain
several E-Mail accounts. These can be obtained free from various
places such as Hotmail.com, or theatreorgans.com. We then suggest you
sign up one name to one list. For example, if you subscribe to the
Hammond List, the PipeChat-L list or Piporg-L List and the
Theatreorgans-L list, it may be helpful to have 4 email accounts. The
first, is your regular EMAIL account, which you don't want polluted
with posts from anywhere. Just private email, so when you log on you
have your email there.
Then maintain 3 additional separate email accounts.
Subscribe to each list under a different account. To really be
spiffy, get an email program like CALYPSO that allows you to read all
of your pop3 type email in one program, sorted by folders.
