Bill Ehrke

Bill Ehrke, owner of Tyson Church Organ Maintenance and a member of MITA International, has been playing the organ since he was about eight years old. Even then he was interested in what made the instrument work, earning an early rebuke from the church organist for taking the back off the organ to look inside.

Acquiring bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas State University at San Marcos, Bill prepared for a teaching career in higher education. But he found his life's work in the maintenance, repair, installation and customization of church organs.

First entering the organ repair field as a hobby, by 1971 Bill opened Orgatronics, an independent organ service firm in El Paso. Building on a background in practical electronics, he was schooled during the home organ boom by Conn, Baldwin, Hammond, Thomas, Lowrey and others -- but his heart was in church organs. Still operating his own business, he became the West Texas and New Mexico Rodgers Organ technician for Tyson Piano and Organ Company of Dallas, the Rodgers dealer for a large area of the Southwest.

In 1981 Bill moved to Dallas as senior technician and later service manager for Tyson. When the owners of the dealership retired in 1997, Bill acquired the service department and serves his clients today under the name Tyson Church Organ Maintenance.

Bill is a factory-authorized Rodgers technician and limits his business to full-size church organs built by Rodgers and other major American manufacturers. His customer base is spread throughout Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and portions of Louisiana and Arkansas.

Tyson Church Organ Maintenance operates a unique Annual Maintenance program based on pre-scheduled trips for multiple clients. Trip expenses are divided equally among all the churches on a given route, making periodic organ maintenance affordable for clients located at a distance from a technician.
Bill has traveled to Mexico, Korea and Brazil as an organist and organ technician.

In addition to repairs and routine maintenance, Tyson Church Organ Maintenance specializes in audio upgrades, customization, and voicing of church organ installations. Our voicer is veteran Rodgers pro William Morris.

Bill and his family live in Irving, Texas, where he is organist at First Baptist Church and also teaches an adult Bible class.
